Renée Fleming returns to join Sakari Oramo and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra for the shimmering ‘transformation’ music that closes Richard Strauss’s opera Daphne, and Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, a nostalgic portrait of the America of a simpler age.
The RSPO also brings music by its Swedish compatriot Andrea Tarrodi – Liguria, a vivid musical ‘walking tour’ through Italian fishing villages as well as Nielsen’s Second Symphony, ‘The Four Temperaments’, whose four movements offer different character portraits, from a choleric opening Allegro to a melancholic slow movement.

Soprano Renée Fleming will be joining the Music Academy of the West as a guest artist, offering a masterclass on Wednesday, August 2, and a concert with the Academy Festival Orchestra at the Granada Theatre on Saturday, August 5. Alan Gilbert will conduct, and Fleming will sing the Four Last Songs of Richard Strauss.

Superstar soprano and AMFS alumna Renée Fleming returns to Aspen to perform Michael Tilson Thomas's song settings of poetry of Emily Dickinson, which Tilson Thomas notes were written for and inspired by Fleming. AMFS Music Director Robert Spano leads a program that also features a symphonic poem based on an Australian Aboriginal myth, wherein all humans are connected through “dreamtime ancestors," and the world premiere of a piano concerto by AMFS President and CEO Alan Fletcher played by the brilliant Inon Barnatan. The season theme of "enchantment" is represented by Stravinsky’s Suite from The Firebird ballet.
